Role Summary

The Reliability Engineer will focus on mechanical design and component reliability, particularly in the context of piping and valve systems. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of inspection techniques and ideally have experience with rail tank car components. This role will significantly contribute to GATX's engineering efforts in data analytics and reliability assessments, developing strategic reliability plans that influence key industry stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance Lifecycle Maintenance: Analyze and monitor fleet performance indicators to drive improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). Establish and track metrics for reliability goals and utilize reliability software for program management.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Create and maintain reliability dashboards using PowerBI, measure engineering program effectiveness, and support quality assurance initiatives to eliminate defects.
  • Fleet Performance Support: Analyze maintenance cost trends and provide data-driven insights to support customer needs and component evaluations.
  • Regulatory Influence: Engage with regulatory bodies to advocate for GATX's interests, providing data metrics and forecasts related to proposed rule changes.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical field with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerBI, along with advanced statistical analysis skills.
  • Certification in reliability engineering data analysis is preferred.
  • Experience with rail car design and familiarity with industry regulations is advantageous.

Work Environment

This position is hybrid, requiring a combination of in-office and remote work. Candidates should be prepared for occasional travel to maintenance facilities and industry meetings.
