The National Systems Group functions as the technical advisor to the Intelligence Community and its affiliates involved in national and tactical intelligence collection and dissemination. This encompasses engagement in electronics initiatives, cutting-edge technologies, ground and communications, imagery projects, and systems engineering and launch activities.

The Reconnaissance Systems (RS) Office within the Imagery Programs Division (IPD) is engaged in a groundbreaking major system acquisition. We are in search of a Proliferated Spacecraft System Engineer (Senior Project Engineer-Multi-Disciplinary Engineering) with significant experience to contribute to an innovative distributed architecture system. This position entails collaboration with customer and contractor teams to oversee spacecraft bus and space vehicle design, analysis, construction, integration, and testing.

Work Model:

This role requires 100% on-site presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the customer in overseeing the design, procurement, production, assembly, integration, testing, launch, and operation of a large, distributed architecture
  • Assessing the comprehensive technical design being developed by the bus provider
  • Guiding program office and ETG experts through the definition, planning, and execution of testing and integration activities
  • Implementing tailored mission assurance practices to identify high-risk areas of the program
  • Leading teams in addressing non-conformance, anomalies, and significant technical challenges
  • Establishing and maintaining strong, productive relationships with customers, SETA personnel, and contractor counterparts

Qualifications for Success - Senior Project Engineer-Multi-Disciplinary Engineering

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering, mathematics, or science discipline
  • Typically, a minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible engineering experience
  • Experience in spacecraft programs, including aspects such as:
    • Spacecraft bus, subsystem, and unit design, analysis, and development
    • Space vehicle assembly, integration, and testing
    • Adapting mission assurance practices to align with the program's risk tolerance
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with various stakeholders
  • Willingness to undertake occasional travel
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SSBI/SCI security clearance and polygraph, both issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is necessary to obtain the security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Experience in commercial or industry spacecraft (bus and payload) production
  • Proficiency in and direct exposure to testing and integration activities on spacecraft programs
  • Experience in spacecraft bus, subsystem, and unit design, analysis, development, testing, and completion
  • Experience in aligning mission assurance practices with the program's risk tolerance
  • The ability to devise innovative solutions for a non-traditional program within contractual boundaries
  • Excellent communication abilities and the capacity to work autonomously and with motivation
