Job Overview

As a Controls Application Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our control systems' functionality and performance. Your expertise will be essential in providing engineering support for our Energy Management Systems (EMS) and other automation products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Become a subject matter expert on our control systems' capabilities and operations.
  • Deliver engineering assistance to clients utilizing our EMS and related products, including HVAC, lighting, and energy monitoring systems.
  • Innovate solutions tailored to meet clients' technical requirements using our existing hardware and software offerings.
  • Support our sales team and prospective clients by providing technical insights during the sales process.
  • Analyze control data to recommend enhancements in energy efficiency and operational effectiveness for clients.
  • Manage technical projects, including pilot tests and equipment deployments.
  • Maintain regular communication with large commercial clients to ensure satisfaction and address concerns.
  • Conduct data analysis and generate standard reports to assist in decision-making.
  • Collaborate with our data analytics team on complex analytics projects.
  • Provide training sessions for clients and internal users on technical systems.
  • Act as a resource for resolving escalated issues from our technical support team.
  • Document technical issues and feature requests for our design engineering team.
  • Create and maintain technical product documentation and training materials.
  • Draft technical statements of work (SOW) for various projects.
  • Participate in design reviews, offering technical expertise and recommendations.
  • Engage in additional projects and responsibilities to support business objectives.
Nature and Scope
  • Strive to achieve optimal satisfaction with our products and client partnerships.
  • Facilitate product development and enhancements by articulating customer needs.
  • Manage projects independently with minimal supervision.
  • Approach complex problems with innovative solutions.
Knowledge and Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of EMS, BMS, and BAS controls, particularly in HVAC and lighting.
  • A diverse set of technical skills to effectively engage with various products and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of energy consumption, building operations, and maintenance optimization.
  • Ability to perform energy use and sustainability assessments.
  • Familiarity with electrical wiring, including three-phase power systems.
  • Knowledge of RS-485 communication wiring and basic electronic engineering principles.
  • Awareness of energy and controls building codes, such as Title 24 and ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting HVAC systems is advantageous.
  • Experience with SQL and database management is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, particularly in presenting technical information to management-level audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  • CAD experience is beneficial.
Experience
  • Minimum experience in building controls or a closely related field is required.
Education
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
Location and Physical Requirements
  • Must be capable of performing essential responsibilities independently.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for client and internal meetings.
  • Remote or hybrid work options are available.
