Job Overview

Western Forest Products US LLC is seeking a seasoned leader to fill the role of General Manager, Engineered Wood Products. This position is responsible for delivering operational results that support the company's safety, sustainability, production, and financial goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for adherence to Western Forest Products' Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems to deliver compliance;
  • Advancing a positive culture of safety and sustainability by providing leadership in safety and environmental stewardship to ensuring the adherence of company safety and sustainability processes and procedures;
  • Maintain safety and environmental compliance and certification as applicable.
Financial Performance
  • Responsible for the P&L of WFP Engineered Products, including achievement of operational metrics and corporate goals;
  • Responsible for the financial budget and production and sales forecasting;
  • Lead the creation of ongoing improvement of production and sales metrics;
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure operational decisions are based on sound financial analytics;
  • Review financial statements and metrics;
  • Establish inventory targets across WFP Engineered Products, ensuring optimal levels are maintained;
  • Develop capital investment opportunities and proposals to provide greatest return to the company.
Leadership
  • Provide leadership and direction to improve safety and environmental performance; maximize sales volume and returns; increase operational efficiency, productivity, and cost control; enhance raw material value and ensure consistent supply; and maximize margins while promoting Western's core values;
  • Seek opportunities to grow and develop the business in the context of Western's corporate strategy and direction;
  • Create and sustain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement;
  • Engaging and motivating a high-performance team;
  • Protect and enhance Western's reputation by managing issues, engaging support from senior leadership as required;
  • Hire, train, coach, mentor, and manage the performance of salaried staff.
Operations
  • Ensure safety and environmental regulatory requirements are met in all operations, holding hourly and salaried staff accountable for performance metrics;
  • Develop product markets and ensure execution of sales strategy;
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of raw material;
  • Ensure the delivery of WFP Engineered Products manufacturing budgeted annual production;
  • Ensuring compliance with engineered wood products technical and quality standards and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure that capital and maintenance projects are coordinated to ensure business impact;
  • Stay abreast of industry innovations and trends to improve company margins.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in Engineered Wood Processing or Lumber Manufacturing Operations in increasingly responsible roles;
  • Post-secondary degree in wood science, engineering, or business administration is preferred;
  • Eligibility or accreditation with an applicable professional body;
  • Business and financial management post-secondary training or equivalent experience preferred.
