Indirect Fire Combat Specialist

Fayetteville, North Carolina, United States Army National Guard Full time
Job Overview

As a member of the Army National Guard serving as an Indirect Fire Infantryman, you will take charge of the Infantry's most formidable weaponry - the mortar system. Within a mortar squad, section, or platoon, your role will encompass various demanding tasks, which may include airborne operations to access strategic locations for mortar setup and concealment. You will also be tasked with identifying and neutralizing enemy explosive devices.

Responsibilities

As you advance in your career, your responsibilities will expand significantly. Senior team members are expected to mentor and train fellow Soldiers, lead mortar squads, and provide both tactical and technical direction to junior personnel. Experienced Indirect Fire Infantrymen will be responsible for executing combat directives, guiding Soldiers during offensive and defensive maneuvers, and coordinating indirect fire support.

Key Duties

• Set up, load, and discharge various types of mortars
• Engage crew and weaponry in ground combat scenarios
• Maintain, clean, and store automatic firearms
• Utilize, fire, and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank munitions
• Conduct reconnaissance missions to identify enemy troop placements and artillery positions

Essential Skills

• Strong interest in weaponry and munitions
• Willingness to embrace challenges and confront risks
• Excellent physical and mental fitness

The teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills acquired as an Indirect Fire Infantryman will equip you for a future in federal, state, or law enforcement, as well as any civilian career path you choose.

Compensation and Training
Instead of incurring costs to acquire these skills, you will earn a salary while training. In the Army National Guard, you will gain valuable expertise while receiving a regular paycheck and qualifying for educational assistance.

Following 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will master fundamental Soldiering skills, you will participate in 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). This training will combine hands-on simulated combat with classroom instruction, allowing you to refine your skills through frequent squad drills, target practice, and tactical exercises.
