The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is a prominent transit organization situated in one of the most rapidly expanding areas in the United States. As UTA continues to grow and adapt, we are in search of a forward-thinking Strategic Project Manager for Long-Term Transit Planning to guide UTA into the future of public transportation for both our workforce and passengers. Your role as the Strategic Project Manager for Long-Term Transit Planning will allow you to directly influence essential policy decisions, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, manage program budgets, and significantly enhance the Greater Utah community by advancing public transit and advocating for sustainable urban development. As the Strategic Project Manager for Long-Term Transit Planning, your responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing, coordinating, and supporting the development activities for various UTA projects and programs.
  • Applying technical project management expertise and possessing a solid understanding of transportation and public transit systems, urban planning, and the interrelationship between transportation and land use.
  • Supervising, assessing, and managing the efforts of UTA staff, consultants, and contractors engaged in planning studies.
  • Assisting in the provision of technical and business support for transit projects, programs, and studies.
  • Taking charge of or aiding in the selection and oversight of consultants and contractors.
  • Engaging in the resolution of key policy matters and other strategic challenges related to UTA's projects and programs.
  • Developing and managing program budgets, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability.
  • Managing requests for planning data and analysis, scheduling work, and directing Planning Researchers for completion.
  • Coordinating planning project and program development activities with other UTA departments and transportation partners, including MPOs, DOT, and local communities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in successfully managing the delivery of planning, transit, or capital projects utilizing a formal project management life cycle tool, including the development and management of scope, schedule, and budget. (A Master's degree in a related field or professional project management certification may equate to two (2) years of relevant experience.)
  • Experience in transit planning or a related field, leading project teams with at least four (4) team members and engaging with both internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating experience in transit planning or transit-related project management.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certifications such as AICP, ITE, PMP, PTP, PE are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred but not required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft and/or Procore project management software is advantageous.
  • Expertise in facilitating teamwork and conflict resolution.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Skills in project integration management and project planning.
  • Competence in stakeholder management with a focus on customer satisfaction and quality.
  • Proficiency in requirements analysis and resource management.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities for projects of varying sizes and complexities; coordinate cross-functional work.
  • Capability to collaborate and function effectively in a large team environment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required for this position.
