Job Summary:

The University of Miami is seeking a Part-time Teacher Assistant (Proctor) to provide grading support for undergraduate classes, develop rubrics, and assist with examination procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation, including collecting materials and setting up equipment.
  • Review lessons or lectures with students on a one-on-one basis or in small groups.
  • Supervise students in class, between classes, and during examinations.
  • Assist with tracking attendance, grading assignments, and calculating grades.
  • Provide extra help to students who need special accommodations or are struggling with a concept.
  • Assist students with special learning requirements, including disabilities or English as a second language students.
  • Attend faculty meetings and parent conferences as needed.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to identify students' issues and recommend solutions.
  • Observe and adhere to University and unit-level policies and safeguards University assets.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Commitment to the University's core values.
  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Department Specific Functions:

  • Serve as proctor enforcing all requirements and conditions associated with exams for medical students.
  • Monitor test rooms during the administration of examinations.
  • Enforce time limits and compliance with other examination procedures.
  • Explain and answer questions concerning examination procedures and related matters.
  • Distribute examination materials to candidates as needed.
