Position Purpose:

Provide a nurturing and stimulating educational environment for young children within our Early Childhood program. Foster their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development while encouraging parent involvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a welcoming classroom atmosphere for all children, parents, and visitors, ensuring an informative and engaging parent board.
  • Collaborate with Lead Teachers to prepare the classroom environment and materials that align with developmentally appropriate curriculum plans and learning experiences.
  • Engage actively with children during all activities, encouraging exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, socialization, and decision-making.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment adhering to program, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Work closely with Lead Teachers, Site Supervisors, and Program Specialists to ensure the implementation of identified health, social service, and disability needs for all classroom children and families.
  • Communicate effectively with parents in a friendly and professional manner, addressing concerns promptly and respectfully.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the classroom and center, collaborating with appropriate program staff to resolve issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding information about families, colleagues, and personal matters.
  • Report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect in accordance with state, tribal, and federal laws.
  • Participate actively in all required professional development opportunities, including those held when the program's childcare center is closed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience working with children in a group setting, with experience in mixed-age groups preferred.
  • A willingness to pursue Child Development Associate (CDA) certification is highly valued.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of diverse cultural populations and their unique needs.
  • A genuine desire to learn about child development and apply that knowledge in daily activities, adapting to the individual needs of each child.
  • Basic proficiency with technology, including tablets, keyboarding skills, computer literacy, and familiarity with applications such as word processing, email, and internet browsing.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification and a Food Handler's Card.
  • Capacity to respond effectively (both mentally and physically) to emergency or crisis situations.
  • Physical ability to interact with children at their eye level (sitting, kneeling, stooping, bending) for most of the workday.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
