Overview:
MedStar Health is seeking a Senior Coding Analyst with expertise in Transplant Surgery coding to become a vital part of our REMOTE team within the MedStar Medical Group. To be considered for this advanced role, candidates should possess 5-7 years of experience in medical coding along with a CPC certification.

Role Responsibilities:
As a Senior Coding Analyst, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and comprehensive coding of MedStar Health's medical services, leveraging extensive knowledge of regulatory and payer-specific requirements. You will also:

  • Recommend policy and procedural modifications to maximize reimbursement for services rendered.
  • Engage with physicians on coding-related matters, ensuring that encounter forms, billing systems, and processes are compliant and up-to-date.
  • Support management as needed and provide mentorship to Coding Edit Specialists and junior Coding Specialists.

Key Duties:
- Abstract and verify the accuracy of diagnoses, procedures, patient demographics, and other essential data elements.
- Assist in creating training materials and coding guidance documents for physicians and associates.
- Develop strategies to aid clinicians in optimizing documentation for compliance and efficient claims processing.
- Maintain billing, coding, and editing dictionaries within the billing system, addressing any discrepancies in medical records with physicians.
- Utilize coding compliance knowledge to achieve quality standards identified through reviews or management directives.

Mentorship and Leadership:
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior Coding Specialists, reviewing and correcting code selections based on medical documentation. Handle complex coding case reviews, including surgical coding across various specialties, multi-visceral transplant cases, and comorbidity evaluations.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification is mandatory.
- 5-7 years of medical coding experience with a proven ability to work independently.
- 2 years of experience in a leadership role or managing a work stream is required.
- Proficiency in computer systems for encoding and abstracting is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with physicians, liaisons, and department administrators.
