POSITION SUMMARY:


The Head Custodian is accountable for the overall maintenance and security of the school premises, ensuring efficient use of resources and providing leadership to the custodial team.

This role encompasses a broad range of cleaning, maintenance, and safety tasks, ensuring that both the interior and exterior of the school environment are well-kept and conducive to learning.

The Head Custodian will familiarize themselves with all operational aspects of the facility, maintaining the grounds and ensuring cleanliness throughout.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with supervisors to plan, assign, and oversee custodial tasks, ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Complete daily work assignments and assist team members as required.
  • Implement building security protocols as necessary.
  • Adopt energy conservation practices.
  • Identify and enforce safety regulations and district guidelines.
  • Maintain open communication with school administration.
  • Foster positive relationships with staff, students, and community members.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
  • Organize custodial staff assignments.
  • Provide guidance and support to co-workers in their tasks.
  • Conduct routine inspections of heating systems and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Manage inventory and order custodial supplies following district procedures.
  • Coordinate facility setups for various school events.
  • Ensure cleanliness of all school areas, including outdoor spaces.
  • Monitor and address cleanliness during school hours.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for custodial services.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize maintenance department resources as needed.
  • Check for communications from staff and administration regularly.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: A minimum of three years of custodial experience, including supervisory experience or training.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Criminal background clearance is required.

Must possess a current Grade IV license for gas-fired or oil-fired boiler operation, if applicable.


KNOWLEDGE OF:

School policies and procedures, as well as the operation and maintenance of heating systems.


ABILITY TO:

Effectively manage job responsibilities independently, maintain attention to detail, and communicate effectively with diverse groups.

Demonstrate a commitment to safety and security practices while fostering positive relationships within the school community.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires physical stamina, including lifting, standing, and performing various manual tasks.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees may encounter hazardous materials and must be prepared to work in varying conditions.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

This position reports to the Building Principal or designated representative.


LEVEL OF COMPENSATION:

Compensation is determined according to the district's salary schedule.
