Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Medical Interpreter to join our team at RELA Language Professionals. As a Medical Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating communication between healthcare providers and limited English proficient patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-sessions with patients and providers to explain the interpreter's role.
  • Interpret medical advice and information accurately while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Assure patient comprehension and assist with appointment scheduling.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to professional boundaries.
  • Explain cultural differences or practices to healthcare providers and patients when appropriate.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude, customer service orientation, and professionalism.
  • Be punctual and adhere to the Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Healthcare.
Requirements
  • Fluency in English and the non-English working language, with the ability to understand complex grammar, structure, syntax, and medical terminology in both languages.
  • Prior experience or training in medical terminology is preferred but not required, as long as the candidate is willing to learn and adapt quickly.
  • One year of related experience and a high school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a nationally accredited 40-hour training program, such as Bridging the Gap or The Community Interpreter, or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to handle stressful situations, and cultural awareness.
  • Flexibility and ability to work outside normal working hours.
  • Pass a background check and health screening.
Benefits
  • Competitive hourly rate: $18.00 - $33.00 per hour (depending upon language, experience, training)
