In this role, you will engage in an embedded technology environment, developing software that operates with real-time systems for critical flight and mission applications.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Simulation Software Engineer to become part of our team of skilled, diverse professionals within our Software division.
In this capacity, you will design, develop, integrate, and test software for our end-user clients and businesses. Your responsibilities will encompass design, architecture, application development, and flight simulation.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Systems Engineering, Cloud & Application, Test Automation, DevSecOps, and Systems Testing, within an Agile software development framework.
Our simulation software is vital to current and future projects.
You will assess system capabilities to address challenges related to program intent, output specifications, input data collection, programming methodologies, and controls.
Essential Functions:
- Engage in an innovative atmosphere, handling significantly diverse tasks, and collaborating in team settings across all levels.
- Participate in the complete software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products to our clients.
- Architect and develop applications within a simulated training environment.
- Collaborate in Agile Scrum teams to create software products for multiple software baselines.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 9 years of relevant engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 7 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proficiency in the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) - software design requirements, application development, integration, testing, and deployment.
- Familiarity with at least one of the following programming or scripting languages: C, C++, or Python.
- Experience with two or more of the following tools: Jira, Crucible, Bitbucket, Subversion, Bamboo, Jenkins, Sonarqube, Fortify, or Coverity.
- Must possess an active DoD Secret or higher clearance.
- Must have the capability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of C and C++ languages, including templates, memory management, and compiler/linker.
- Experience with or knowledge of Joint Simulation Environment (JSE), Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), or High-Level Architecture (HLA).
- Familiarity with Full-Motion Flight Training Systems.
- Experience with simulated threat environments such as AFSIM or NGTS.
- Ability to collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers to develop and maintain complex software systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
