Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Simulation Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Software organization in Palmdale, California, where we define possible.

In this role, you will design, develop, integrate, and test software for our end-user clients and businesses. Specifically, you will be accountable for the design, architecture, application development, and flight simulation.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Systems Engineering, Cloud & Application, Test Automation, DevSecOps, and Systems Test, in an Agile software development environment.

Our simulation software is vital to current and future company initiatives.

You will evaluate system capabilities to address issues related to program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming methodologies, and controls.


Essential Functions:

  • Engage in an innovative environment, tackling significantly diverse assignments, and participating in collaborative team settings across all levels
  • Participate in the complete software development life cycle, encompassing requirements, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products to our clients
  • Architect and develop applications within a simulated training environment
  • Be part of Agile Scrum teams to develop software products for multiple software baselinesSucceedThe individual we seek will be self-motivated, proactive, and goal-oriented to help us expand our services and enhance our performance, possessing the following qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with 9 years of relevant engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 7 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Familiarity with the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) - software design requirements, application development, integration, testing, and deployment
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming or scripting languages: C, C++, and Python
  • Experience with two or more of the following tools: Jira, Crucible, Bitbucket, Subversion, Bamboo, Jenkins, Sonarqube, Fortify, or Coverity
  • Must possess an active DoD Secret or higher clearance.
  • Must have the capability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of C and C++ languages, including templates, memory management, and compiler/linker
  • Experience with or knowledge of Joint Simulation Environment (JSE), Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), or High-Level Architecture (HLA)
  • Experience with Full-Motion Flight Training Systems
  • Familiarity with simulated threat environments such as AFSIM or NGTS
  • Ability to collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers to develop and maintain complex software systems

Salary Range:
$133,000 - $199,600The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
