POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of the Café Vitalidad Senior Activity Center is responsible for the strategic planning, organization, and execution of daily programs that cater to the cultural needs of Hispanic seniors. This role is pivotal in creating a nurturing environment where seniors can enjoy nutritious meals and participate in enriching activities. All communications within the center will be conducted in Spanish, making bilingualism a fundamental requirement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties outline the primary responsibilities of this position:

  1. Design and implement a comprehensive monthly schedule of activities, featuring guest speakers, excursions, and cultural events.
  2. Ensure optimal resource allocation and compliance with operational standards.
  3. Maintain detailed records of inventory and repairs for the center.
  4. Coordinate client transportation logistics with drivers and relevant personnel.
  5. Supervise the preparation and serving of culturally relevant meals, working closely with the Kitchen Manager.
  6. Assist in inventory management, supply requisition, and meal preparation as necessary.
  7. Compile and report essential statistics and records on a routine basis.
  8. Utilize ServTracker for effective management of client records and statistical data.
  9. Organize and oversee fundraising initiatives for the center and engage in agency-wide events.
  10. Promote center activities through community outreach, local media, and public speaking opportunities.
  11. Engage with the community to recruit new members and visit senior residences.
  12. Provide clients with referrals to both agency and external programs.
  13. Manage meal donations and ensure timely deposits.
  14. Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting environment for all members.
  15. Participate in mandatory training sessions and uphold certifications in CPR, First Aid, and ServSafe.
  16. Recruit, schedule, and oversee volunteers.
  17. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential qualifications include:

  1. Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) with all center interactions conducted in Spanish.
  2. A two-year college degree in geriatric social services, human services, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  3. Proficient in computer applications, including database management.
  4. Strong time management and multitasking abilities in a dynamic environment.
  5. Capable of reading and interpreting documents, writing routine reports, and effectively presenting information.
  6. Ability to perform extended periods of office work.
  7. CPR, First Aid, and ServSafe certifications are required upon hiring.
  8. Strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to manage diverse situations.
  9. A valid driver's license, defensive driving certification, and proof of insurance are necessary.

REPORTING STRUCTURE: This position reports directly to the Congregate Program Manager and subsequently to the Nutrition Program Director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most responsibilities will be carried out in an office setting, with occasional travel to other locations as needed to support programs and services.



WORK SCHEDULE: This is a part-time temporary position requiring 20 hours per week, with specific hours outlined for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and one additional day.
