About the Role

The Virginia Community Colleges invites nominations and applications for the position of Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic and Workforce Programs. This is a key leadership role that will drive the strategic alignment, integration, and coordination of academic, student, workforce, and research programs and services across the system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for a large and complex portfolio of responsibilities, including strategic alignment, integration, and coordination of academic, student, workforce, and research programs and services.
  • Lead mission-driven initiatives for the VCCS, focusing on integrating and harnessing the major divisions within the system.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive the preparation and delivery of the "what's next" for Virginia's community colleges.
  • Build relationships among individuals and groups internally and externally to advance the VCCS's mission and strategic plan.
  • Supervise a team of senior leaders, including the chief academic officer, chief workforce development officer, and chief student affairs officer.
Requirements
  • An earned doctorate is required.
  • A commitment to the community college mission, with a focus on innovation and creative problem-solving.
  • Strong managerial skills and experience across multiple areas, including budget and finance, human resources, risk management, information technology, compliance and legal affairs, and academic and workforce development program administration.
  • The ability to plan and act strategically, while maintaining transparency and building consensus.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including grant writing, to promote the VCCS and campus programs and ideas to internal and external audiences.
  • Outstanding diplomatic, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to represent the VCCS on complex and nuanced topics at the highest levels of business, industry, government, and similar contexts.
What We Offer

The VCCS offers a competitive salary and benefits package, with a salary range of approximately $225,000 – $275,000. The system is committed to diversity and inclusion, and the ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to these values.

The VCCS is a dynamic and innovative organization, with a strong focus on student success and community engagement. The system is comprised of 23 colleges with 40 locations, serving more than 230,000 students throughout the state. The system office is headquartered in the state capital of Richmond metropolitan area, with a team of over 200 employees.

The SVC for Academic and Workforce Programs will be a key member of the Chancellor's Cabinet, working closely with the Chancellor and other senior leaders to advance the VCCS's mission and strategic plan. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a strong track record of innovation, collaboration, and strategic leadership.
