Role Overview:

The Applications Developer operates under general oversight to execute programming tasks associated with the institution's enterprise applications and reporting database. This role is focused on acquiring knowledge of institutional concepts through the development of software solutions and engaging in initiatives that foster student achievement and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties are essential to the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

  • Collaborates with user departments to identify data requirements that address specific information needs.
  • Creates and develops comprehensive specifications for programming solutions that fulfill information demands.
  • Coordinates data and information needs with other IT professionals.
  • Ensures proper documentation of assigned application systems and programs.
  • Facilitates training for personnel in user departments regarding assigned application software.
  • Delivers thorough process documentation to IT operations in alignment with production protocols and standards.
  • Generates estimates and progress reports on assigned projects, detailing time spent on tasks.
  • Integrates installation standards and methodologies into assigned projects, designing the most efficient approach to complete programming tasks.
  • Modifies, corrects, and enhances existing applications as directed.
  • Implements adequate testing and controls in programs to ensure smooth transitions and operations.
  • Prepares test data and rigorously tests developed programs.
  • Produces program specifications, coding, and documentation for new and existing programs.
  • Creates detailed flowcharts, maintenance notes, record layouts, and report specifications.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is required. One to two years of experience in structured analysis, programming, and design, or one to two years of experience in object-oriented programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, and Visual Basic is essential. Demonstrated analytical skills to approach applications logically are necessary.

  • Proficiency in web application development languages, including HTML, XML, Java, and ASP.
  • Familiarity with database query and scripting languages, as well as reporting tools like Crystal Reports.
  • Basic understanding of operating system concepts and functionalities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of personal computing and related software.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL and Oracle.
  • Understanding of procedural and/or object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and reporting concepts, along with reporting tools such as Crystal Reports and Business Objects.

Work Hours:

Standard hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:15 pm

*This position is not fully remote. Alternative work schedules or remote opportunities may be available as applicable.
On-call availability 24/7 for emergencies.

Compensation:

$59,180 (Minimum) plus comprehensive benefits.
