Role Overview:

The Applications Developer operates under general supervision to execute programming tasks associated with the college's enterprise applications and reporting database. This role is committed to understanding educational concepts through the development of software solutions that enhance student achievement and promote continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties are essential to the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

  • Collaborates with user departments to identify data requirements that address specific information needs.
  • Develops comprehensive specifications for programming solutions that fulfill information demands.
  • Coordinates with other IT professionals to align data and information requirements.
  • Ensures thorough documentation of assigned application systems and software.
  • Facilitates training for user department staff on designated application software.
  • Delivers complete process documentation to IT operations in accordance with production standards.
  • Generates estimates and progress reports on assigned projects, detailing time spent on tasks.
  • Integrates installation standards and methodologies into projects, optimizing program completion within project scope.
  • Modifies, corrects, and enhances existing applications as required.
  • Implements adequate testing and controls in programs to ensure seamless transitions and operations.
  • Creates test data and conducts thorough testing of developed programs.
  • Produces program specifications, coding, and documentation for new and existing software.
  • Prepares detailed flowcharts, maintenance notes, record layouts, and report specifications.
Education and Experience:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is required. Candidates should possess one to two years of experience in structured analysis, programming, and design, or one to two years of experience in object-oriented programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, and Visual Basic. Demonstrated analytical skills to approach applications logically are essential.

  • Proficiency in web application development languages, including HTML, XML, Java, and ASP.
  • Familiarity with database query and scripting languages, as well as reporting tools like Crystal Reports.
  • Basic understanding of operating system concepts and functionalities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of personal computing and related software.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL and Oracle.
  • Understanding of procedural and/or object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and reporting methodologies, along with reporting tools such as Crystal Reports and Business Objects.

Work Hours:

Standard hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:15 pm
This position is not fully remote; alternative work arrangements may be available based on circumstances.

Compensation:

$59,180 (Minimum) plus comprehensive benefits.
