Position Overview

The Transportation Specialist is tasked with managing transportation logistics to facilitate the movement of individuals, documents, and materials across various facilities including detention centers, courts, and medical institutions. The role emphasizes the importance of safety and security throughout the transportation process.

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in law enforcement (e.g., Police, Sheriff's Deputy, Highway Patrol) with a commendable record or retired status.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of a recognized law enforcement training program (Post Certification Academy).
  • Verification of education, training, and experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transports individuals to designated locations using various vehicles.
  • Maintains security and order in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensures accountability of transported individuals and accurately documents their movements.
  • Observes individual behavior and activities to uphold discipline.
  • Conducts regular patrols and inspections of transport vehicles.
  • Checks for contraband in vehicles and among individuals.
  • Accurately manages reports and documentation.
  • Reports any damage to equipment, missing items, and maintenance requirements.
  • Regularly cleans and sanitizes transport vehicles and related equipment.
  • Ensures all necessary paperwork for transports is completed correctly.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's)

  • Comprehensive understanding of transportation practices and protocols.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and direct transportation activities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office.
  • Capability to prepare and finalize detailed reports.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, legal obligations, and associated liabilities.
  • Sound judgment in decision-making and problem-solving scenarios.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to issue clear directives.
  • Experience working with law enforcement and correctional agencies is preferred.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess Law Enforcement Academy POST Certification.
  • Ability to obtain necessary permits as required.
  • Capable of working in a correctional environment.
  • Preferably holds a Commercial Driver's License Class A or B.
  • Successful completion of background checks is mandatory.
  • Must pass drug and TB screenings.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and on-call duties.
