The Transportation Specialist is accountable for managing the logistics of transporting individuals, documents, and materials across various facilities, including correctional institutions, judicial courts, healthcare facilities, and administrative offices. The role emphasizes the paramount importance of safety and security throughout the transportation process.

Essential Qualifications

  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in law enforcement roles (e.g., Police Officer, Sheriff’s Deputy, Highway Patrol) with a commendable record or retired status.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of a recognized law enforcement training program (Post Certification Academy).
  • Verification of educational background, training, and relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transports individuals to designated locations utilizing various vehicles.
  • Maintains security and order in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensures accountability of transported individuals and meticulously documents their locations.
  • Observes and monitors behavior, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Conducts regular inspections and patrols of transport areas.
  • Checks vehicles and individuals for prohibited items.
  • Accurately manages documentation and reporting.
  • Reports any damage to equipment, missing items, or maintenance requirements.
  • Regularly cleans and sanitizes transport vehicles and related equipment.
  • Ensures all necessary paperwork for transports is completed accurately.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's)

  • Thorough understanding of transportation protocols and methodologies.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and direct transportation activities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across various departments.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office.
  • Ability to prepare and finalize comprehensive reports.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, legal responsibilities, and liabilities.
  • Sound judgment in decision-making and problem resolution.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to provide clear instructions.
  • Experience working with law enforcement and correctional institutions.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess Law Enforcement Academy POST Certification.
  • Ability to obtain a Tennessee Handgun Permit.
  • Capability to operate effectively in a correctional environment.
  • Preferably holds a Commercial Driver's License Class A or B.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Must pass drug and tuberculosis screenings.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call shifts.
