Key Responsibilities

Purpose Statement: Engage in all aspects of pharmaceutical services, encompassing drug distribution and clinical support, while upholding the dignity and worth of every individual and maintaining cost-effectiveness.

Core Duties:

  • Oversee medication therapy and communicate findings to relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Gather and submit PharmDoc intervention data consistently.
  • Participate in renal dosing protocols actively.
  • Evaluate medication orders for accuracy, including dosage, frequency, indications, and potential drug interactions.
  • Guide nursing staff in resolving medication-related issues.
  • Address and resolve tasks in the Pharmacist work queue within the Pharmacy Order Entry System.
  • Engage in the management of Clozapine patients.
  • Be available for additional responsibilities beyond primary duties.
  • Contribute to pharmacokinetic monitoring and TPN calculations for both adults and pediatrics.
  • Participate in anticoagulant management and pain management services.
  • Monitor microbiology cultures and assist in IV to PO conversion programs.
  • Prepare and verify intravenous admixtures.
  • Provide drug information and counsel patients regarding their medication regimens.
  • Document inquiries in the drug information database as per policy.
  • Participate in adverse drug reaction reporting and medication error processes.
  • Recommend improvements for medication safety systems.
  • Engage in formulary management and review medication classes.
  • Complete at least one Drug Utilization Evaluation project annually.
  • Present items to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee each year.
  • Develop formulary drug monographs for formulary addition requests.
  • Participate in policy writing and revisions, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Educate staff on new or revised policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professionalism and leadership standards through ongoing education and development.
  • Serve as a preceptor for students or residents.
  • Contribute to departmental education through written articles.
  • Support and engage in clinical research initiatives.
  • Complete job-specific competencies, including age-specific training.
Qualifications

Education: Must possess a degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy with at least a Baccalaureate Degree in Pharmacy.

Licensure: Must hold a valid pharmacist license in the State of North Dakota in good standing.

Experience: No prior experience required.

Skills: Proficient in computer systems and capable of providing pharmaceutical care across all patient age groups.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport with staff, patients, and visitors while maintaining confidentiality.

Other Considerations: May encounter environmental hazards typical of a medical facility, including exposure to blood and body fluids, with options for vaccination programs. Exposure to cytotoxic agents and hazardous materials may occur. Work environment is air-conditioned year-round, with occasional mental and visual strain. Commitment to continuing education as mandated by the North Dakota State Board of Pharmacy is required.
