Position: Materials and Processes Engineer - Specializing in Chemistry, Contamination Control, and Coatings (Mid-Level, Senior, or Subject Matter Expert)

BR&T is in search of a driven and skilled Engineer with a focus on analytical chemistry and aerospace finishing systems. We are looking for an Engineer to be part of our Chemical Technology team.

The ideal candidate will have a robust background in analytical and experimental chemistry, particularly in laboratory settings, and will engage in diverse projects, including those related to space launch vehicles, satellites, commercial aircraft, and underwater vehicles. A comprehensive understanding of laboratory instrumentation and aerospace materials is essential, along with the capability to design and build unique testing setups that leverage knowledge in chemistry, physics, mechanical testing, and basic electronics.

The successful applicant will be adept at leading intricate projects, such as the development and qualification of materials, collaborating with a diverse support team. They should be proficient in creating laboratory test plans that prioritize safety and utilize available resources effectively to support various Boeing initiatives.

Boeing provides competitive compensation and promotes work-life balance. The candidate should possess experience in repairing various equipment and be comfortable with the use and maintenance of older laboratory instruments. When standard equipment is unavailable, the candidate should be capable of constructing innovative testing setups to address challenges related to materials, components, or processes.

Familiarity with aerospace materials will include knowledge of applicable analytical methods and the ability to verify and establish requirements in relevant material specifications. Understanding hypergolic materials and their safe handling is advantageous.

Moreover, the successful candidate will mentor junior team members, enhancing their skills and confidence in the laboratory environment. They will also collaborate with remote team members with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and update material or process specifications
  • Implement environmental protection methods and requirements
  • Investigate corrosion reports and recommend design modifications to mitigate corrosion impacts
  • Conduct failure analysis and lead initiatives for process improvements in finishing systems
  • Engage with government and internal/external customers
  • Review and authorize documents and drawings related to finishing requirements
  • Oversee production acceptance and/or qualification of materials
  • Assist or lead evaluations of emerging technologies for potential applications
  • Guide junior staff members

Work Environment:

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.

Export Control Compliance:

This position must adhere to export control compliance requirements. A "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience mentoring entry-level engineers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience in aerospace analytical chemistry, paints and coatings, and/or inorganic chemical processes
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science
