Job Title: Electrical Systems Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team at Watertown Public Schools. As an Electrical Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for performing skilled level electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with standards practice of the electrical trade.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems and equipment, both high and low voltage, air distribution systems, pumps, transformers, motors, streetlights, and appliances.
  • Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Documents information on preventive maintenance files on electrical equipment and machinery and monitors a preventive maintenance program.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Drawing circuits on a one-line diagram for controls.
  • Designs functional electric circuitry for electrical systems.
  • Locates and adjusts defects in electrical systems and equipment.
  • Estimates labor or material costs/amounts from blueprints or work plans.
  • Expresses ideas on technical problems clearly and concisely orally and in writing in the English language.
  • Complies with laws and regulations regarding safety.
  • Complies with state codes, fire codes, and OSHA.
  • Complies with all rules and regulations from local, state, or federal guidelines.
  • Adheres to all safety guidelines.
  • Advises management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Uses and cares for hand tools and equipment necessary to perform various electrical repair tasks.
  • Responds to emergencies outside normal work hours.
  • Performs other similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates.
  • Maintains current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
  • Performs additional maintenance duties as assigned by the Director of Public Buildings.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school or vocational school diploma, with advanced technical training.
  • Valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electricians License.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of experience as a licensed electrician; experience/knowledge of electrical construction and maintenance, including installation of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment, and pole line construction.
