Optical Systems Engineer

At Meta's Reality Labs Research, we're pushing the boundaries of consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. As an Optical Scientist, you'll join a team of industry-leading scientists and engineers to create cutting-edge technology that makes Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) pervasive and universal.
Responsibilities- Develop software models in Python, MATLAB, and FRED to predict and optimize full AR display system performance.
- Design and refine algorithms to correct for non-uniformity in AR displays.
- Resolve discrepancies between display model predictions and measured performance data.
- Develop novel concepts and technologies for next-generation AR displays.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to explore innovative concepts that advance the entire pipeline, from hardware and software to integration and applications.
- PhD in Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
- General knowledge of optics, including imaging, illumination, radiometry, and colorimetry.
- Experience with optical modeling tools, such as FRED, LightTools, Zemax, or CODE V.
- 3+ years of experience with optics technologies, including physical optics, computational optics, holography, display optics, imaging, illumination, stray light analysis, radiometry, and photometry.
- Experience with software configuration management systems, such as GitHub.
- Experience with AR displays.
- Experience in developing complex systems involving optics and mechanics.
- Proven track record of achieving results, demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, and publications.
- Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
