Optical Scientist, AR Display System Modeling and Development

At Meta's Reality Labs Research, we're pushing the boundaries of consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. As an Optical Scientist, you'll join a team of industry-leading scientists and engineers to create cutting-edge technology that makes Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) pervasive and universal.

Responsibilities
  • Develop software models in Python/MATLAB, FRED, and other analysis platforms to predict and optimize full AR display system performance.
  • Design and refine algorithms to correct for non-uniformity in AR displays.
  • Resolve discrepancies between display model predictions and measured performance data.
  • Develop novel concepts and technologies for next-generation AR displays.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers to explore innovative concepts that advance the entire pipeline (hardware, software, integration, infrastructure, and applications).
Requirements
  • PhD in Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • General knowledge of optics, including imaging, illumination, radiometry, and colorimetry.
  • Experience with one or more optical modeling tools (e.g., FRED, LightTools, Zemax, CODE V).
  • 3+ years of experience with optics technologies, including physical optics, computational optics, holography, display optics, imaging, illumination, stray light analysis, radiometry, and photometry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with software configuration management systems such as GitHub.
  • Experience with AR displays.
  • Experience in developing complex systems involving optics and mechanics.
  • Proven track record of achieving results, demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, and first-authored publications at workshops or conferences.
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
