Position Overview: The role of Quality Inspector I is crucial in ensuring that our products adhere to both engineering specifications and customer expectations. This position involves the inspection of procured components from suppliers, products, and assemblies from our manufacturing operations, as well as fully assembled spacecraft. Your insights will be vital in enhancing our processes and procedures, ultimately ensuring the delivery of reliable spaceflight hardware.

Specific Focus: This position specifically emphasizes electrical inspection, and we seek candidates with experience in evaluating circuit boards and certifications in IPC-610 and/or J-STD-001.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of mechanical components utilizing tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, and CMMs.
  • Inspect printed wiring boards (PWB) and verify the integrity of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) components, including cable assemblies and printed wiring assemblies (PWA).
  • Examine spaceflight components, including buses, solar arrays, sun sensors, and reaction wheels.
  • Review and confirm incoming documentation from suppliers, ensuring material traceability and compliance with test reports and certificates of conformity.
  • Document inspection activities through electronic systems, written logs, and labels.
  • Witness and validate various testing and setup operations.
  • Identify non-conforming conditions and document findings clearly.
  • Collaborate with program Quality Engineers and Manufacturing personnel to address process and product non-conformances effectively.
  • Promote a collaborative team environment that fosters learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Adhere to established safety practices and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; higher-level degrees may substitute for experience.
  • Relevant technical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience in inspection or Quality Engineering within aerospace/defense, electronics contract manufacturing, or high-precision machining.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T ASME Y14.5) is preferred.
  • Experience in inspecting electronic workmanship of PWB, PWA, and cables (IPC600, IPC610, IPC620) is essential; current 3rd party certification is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and technical schematics.
  • Experience in Receiving Inspection and reviewing material certifications.
  • Proficiency in using ERP/MRP and engineering data management software.
  • Basic understanding of material flow in a manufacturing setting and the significance of measuring tool calibration.
  • Familiarity with ISO9000 requirements related to manufacturing and quality operations; AS9100 experience is a plus.

Working Conditions: This position operates in a professional office environment within a manufacturing setting, utilizing standard office equipment.

Physical Demands: The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, with occasional standing, bending, reaching, and walking. Light physical effort is necessary, including the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
