We are seeking a dedicated YHDP Housing Navigator to play a crucial role in assisting young individuals aged 18-24 who are facing homelessness. This position is designed to facilitate access to stable housing and support services within the community.
Role Summary:
The YHDP Housing Navigator will operate under the guidance of the Norcal SVP, focusing on connecting youth with housing opportunities and essential resources. This role is part of a statewide initiative emphasizing that housing is a fundamental right and integral to health and well-being. The Housing Navigator will engage in outreach efforts to establish relationships with local landlords and property management entities, ensuring that the program and its participants are presented in a compelling manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct outreach to identify and engage young individuals eligible for housing assistance, utilizing various communication methods.
- Facilitate connections between participants and Housing Transition Navigation services, fostering community relationships to promote successful housing placements.
- Assist participants in accessing supportive services, including mental health care, substance abuse treatment, employment resources, and educational opportunities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, ensuring timely enrollment and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Participate in training sessions and community engagement activities, contributing to the onboarding of new case managers.
- Implement Housing First principles to support youth in securing and maintaining their homes.
- Provide ongoing support to individuals who have secured housing, addressing any emerging issues and ensuring their rights are upheld.
Classification: Non-Exempt, 40 hours per week
Compensation: $22.50/hour
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Social Services or a related field is preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience working directly with high-risk youth, including counseling and advocacy, is required. Familiarity with real estate or rental processes is advantageous.
Skills:
- Understanding of the Housing First model, Trauma-Informed Care, and principles of harm reduction.
- Empathy towards the challenges faced by youth experiencing homelessness and a commitment to the mission of Covenant House California.
- Proficient in computer applications, including word processing and database management; experience with HMIS and ETO is a plus.
- Knowledgeable in adolescent development, case management, and crisis intervention strategies.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
Transportation: A valid California driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
Working Environment: The role is primarily office-based, with occasional requirements to lift up to 40 lbs and engage in prolonged periods of sitting or standing. Flexibility for weekend or holiday work may be necessary.
Supervision: This position reports directly to the Norcal SVP and does not have supervisory responsibilities.
