Position Overview:

This position will support the Healthcare Underwriting Team by serving as a resource for all policies and endorsements, market insights, and claims feedback. Our Aspen Values are expected to be reflected in the delivery and performance of every role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee healthcare claims across multiple jurisdictions.
  2. Timely and accurately analyze and resolve coverage issues. Draft coverage position letters.
  3. Conduct thorough investigations to develop the facts of a claim, ensuring accurate documentation and prompt communication with all relevant parties.
  4. Assess complex damages and liability exposures to establish precise and timely reserves.
  5. Manage the litigation process and associated expenses effectively.
  6. Proactively oversee a claim inventory and negotiate resolutions under moderate supervision.
  7. Present cases and share expertise during claim committee discussions and customer claim review meetings as necessary.
  8. Identify potential fraud and third-party contribution issues and address them appropriately.
  9. Comply with all statutory regulations and Unfair Claims Practices Acts.
  10. Act as a liaison between Aspen and brokers to maintain accurate loss expense reserves reflective of the company's exposure.
  11. Identify risks to the company and keep senior management informed of pending claims and litigation that may pose significant exposure to Aspen's insureds.
  12. Embody and advocate for the Aspen Spirit.
  13. Engage in relevant professional, technical, and career development training, including obtaining necessary qualifications.
  14. Ensure timely and accurate issuance of company, market, and client-related documentation.
  15. Function as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing to the achievement of overall team and business objectives.
  16. Collaborate with relevant areas within the business to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  17. Perform any other duties of a similar nature as reasonably requested by the company that align with the jobholder's expertise.
  18. Partner with underwriting colleagues by attending meetings with existing/potential insureds, brokers, and industry events when requested.
  19. Speak at industry events when requested.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant claims and/or law firm experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of legislation, regulations, industry standards, and best practices in insurance and financial services.
  • Significant experience in healthcare professional liability claims.
  • Prior experience in Professional Liability Claims and/or law firm experience defending professionals is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the insurance industry, particularly the P&C sector.
  • Relevant professional qualifications in compliance, investments, law, business, or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying compliance and regulatory issues to key stakeholders.
  • Preferred knowledge of other professional claims, including those related to lawyers and accountants, as a portion of the role will involve managing those claims as well.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple deadlines and tasks efficiently with minimal direction.
