Residential Generator Technician Trainee

The Residential Generator Technician Trainee plays a vital role in assisting with the upkeep and installation of home backup generators. This position involves supporting the Residential Generator Technician in various duties associated with generator upkeep, diagnostics, and setup. The ideal candidate should have fundamental technical abilities, a strong dedication to their work, and a commitment to ensuring the dependable operation of backup generators in residential environments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Generator Upkeep:
    • Assist with regular maintenance activities such as oil changes, filter swaps, and inspections.
    • Clean and service generator components to guarantee peak performance.
    • Maintain records of maintenance and document services rendered.
  • Troubleshooting Support:
    • Help the Residential Generator Technician in identifying and resolving generator problems.
    • Learn to utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to pinpoint issues.
  • Installation Assistance:
    • Support the installation of home backup generators in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and local building regulations.
    • Assist with electrical and mechanical connections as instructed.
  • Inventory Oversight:
    • Manage the inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring they are organized and accessible.
    • Assist in procuring replacement parts as necessary.
  • Safety Adherence:
    • Follow safety protocols and guidelines consistently.
    • Engage in safety training sessions as required.
  • Client Interaction:
    • Communicate with homeowners in a polite and professional manner.
    • Provide basic information and respond to inquiries regarding generator upkeep and operation.
  • Documentation Support:
    • Assist in preparing service reports, invoices, and necessary documentation for each task.
    • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all paperwork.
  • Regulatory Awareness:
    • Stay updated on local regulations and codes pertaining to generator installation and maintenance.
    • Ensure all tasks comply with relevant regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge or a willingness to learn.
  • Physical capability to lift and transport heavy equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Ability to follow directions and collaborate effectively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in generator maintenance or electrical work.
  • Certification in generator maintenance or a related field.
  • Familiarity with various generator brands and models.

Physical Requirements:
