Sampson Regional Medical Center is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its Laboratory team


Job Summary:

The selected candidate will be responsible for registering patients using a laboratory outreach system, scanning laboratory documents into the electronic medical record, and obtaining specimens from patients using appropriate techniques. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for collecting blood samples by capillary, arterial, and venipuncture, as well as transporting, receiving, centrifuging, aliquoting, and distributing specimens to reference labs. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining the reference lab system and files, managing supply inventory, and receiving and distributing incoming supplies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Registration and Specimen Collection: Register patients using a laboratory outreach system and obtain specimens from patients using appropriate techniques.
  • Specimen Processing: Collect blood samples by capillary, arterial, and venipuncture, and transport, receive, centrifuge, aliquot, and distribute specimens to reference labs.
  • Lab Operations: Maintain the reference lab system and files, manage supply inventory, and receive and distribute incoming supplies.
  • Patient Care: Provide care to patients of all age categories.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training: Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program.
  • Preferred Qualifications: 1 year of college with courses in mathematics and biology, National Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician, and computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
