Job Responsibilities

The Sous Chef plays a crucial role in supporting the Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef in overseeing the savory kitchen operations at our location. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing kitchen operations and supervising staff, addressing challenges as they arise.
  • Managing all aspects of savory food production, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to standards.
  • Opening and closing the kitchen as required.
  • Expediting and working the line when necessary.
  • Collaborating with front-of-house managers to coordinate savory food packing.
  • Ensuring compliance with company standards in food production and striving for operational excellence.
  • Handling product ordering and maintaining vendor relationships.
  • Prioritizing safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in all kitchen operations.
  • Assisting with kitchen equipment maintenance and upkeep.
  • Supporting the success of cooking classes, special events, and projects as directed.

Menu Development

  • Creating menu specials under the guidance of the Chef de Cuisine.

Training and Development

  • Assisting in the training and onboarding of kitchen staff.
  • Developing training materials to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  • Monitoring and managing staff performance, including addressing disciplinary issues as necessary.

Financial Management

  • Assisting with inventory management and completing monthly reports.
  • Collaborating with team members to achieve financial goals.

Leadership and Communication

  • Facilitating strong communication within the kitchen and across departments.
  • Engaging with management for consultation and coordination.
  • Modeling appropriate workplace behavior and upholding company policies and standards.
  • Maintaining a positive company culture that reflects our vision and values.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Completing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a professional kitchen.
  • Availability for full-time work (45-50 hours per week).
  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Adherence to documented food safety procedures.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to take direction from multiple managers.
  • Proficiency in reading and following recipes, multitasking, and thriving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Desire for long-term employment.
