About the Role

The Clinical Assistance Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating clinical assistance programs for patients. This includes screening patients on-site at hospitals and identifying those who are eligible for state, county, and federal assistance programs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Review hospital census to identify self-pay patients and refer them to Firstsource for further processing.
  • Screen patients to determine their eligibility for various assistance programs.
  • Initiate the application process for patients who are found to be eligible.
  • Assist patients in completing the application process and provide them with necessary information and support.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Advocate Specialist to ensure a smooth transition of care.
  • Record all relevant patient information on the designated in-house screening sheet.
  • Document the results of the screening in the onsite tracking tool and hospital computer system.
  • Identify out-patient/ER accounts that are designated as self-pay and review the system for available information.
  • Face to face screen patients on site as able and attempt to reach them by telephone if unable to screen face to face.
  • Document out-patient/ER accounts when accepted in the hospital system and on-site tracking tool.
  • Perform outside field work as required, including patient home visits to screen for eligibility of State, County, and Federal programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by client contract.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 - 3 years' experience of medical coding, medical billing, eligibility (hospital or government) or other pertinent medical experience is preferred.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Dress code and other policies may be different at each healthcare facility.
  • Working on holidays or odd hours may be required at times.
