We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Nurse Command Center Specialist. This role will be responsible for executing all aspects of bed management and transfer center operations in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, direct, and coordinate transfers and admissions from physician offices, hospitals, and other healthcare settings to the most appropriate accepting service, facility, and level of care.
- Facilitate patient placement by assessing patient diagnosis, acuity, and location, applicable risk factors, and unit criteria/bed availability.
- Collaborate with facility departments, medical staff, nursing staff, and leadership to promote appropriate, timely patient placement, and identify and communicate bed capacity issues.
- Leverage capacity dashboards and other real-time indicators to predict future patient placement pressure points and participate in the execution of surge-capacity protocols.
- Assist with all aspects of patient logistics, including pre-registration, transportation, and bed planning, and collect unit-specific data and information needed to access and place patients appropriately.
- Adhere to regulatory compliance with all Command Center operations, including Stark, EMTALA, and any other pertinent regulations.
- Provide timely and accurate transfer and admission documentation.
- Work collaboratively with providers and key stakeholders to develop and maintain transfer and admission pathways for patients.
- Delegate tasks as needed to the Transfer Center Tech and EMS Liaison.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Healthcare, and abide by service behavior standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice is required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
- Minimum 5 years RN experience in either ED, ICU, and/or 5 years acute care inpatient nursing.
- Critical Care or ED background, hospital supervisor, charge nurse, or previous transfer center experience is preferred.
- ACLS certification.
- A specialty certification (CCRN, PCCN, MSRN, or CEN).
- Experience with hospital throughput or capacity management.
- Experience with Command Center operations, knowledge of Epic.
Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required. Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions.
