Role Summary:
As a Medication Administration Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting with the administration of medications to residents, ensuring adherence to their individualized care plans while complying with state and federal regulations. You will operate under the supervision of a licensed nursing professional.Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain precise inventory of medications at the start and end of each shift, ensuring accurate distribution and performing the necessary checks prior to administration. Monitor residents for any side effects and ensure medications are administered in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.
- Deliver quality care to residents with chronic or subacute conditions, assist in the care of those who are acutely ill, and administer medications in line with established care standards.
- Respond to call lights, assist with transfers and ambulation, and support residents during meal times.
- Participate in shift reports, communicating effectively with the nursing team about any changes in resident conditions.
- Complete all required documentation related to medication and treatment administration while maintaining confidentiality and privacy for all residents.
- Ensure that preventative measures outlined in residents' care plans are implemented and report any concerns to the nursing team.
- Respond promptly to alarms and ensure a safe environment for residents, particularly those at risk of falls.
- Provide comfort and hygiene assistance to residents at the end of life, including offering amenities to their families.
- Adhere to safety protocols to ensure the well-being of residents and staff, including proper use of equipment and reporting any safety incidents.
- Maintain a state of alertness and safety throughout your shift.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED, or 10 years of relevant work experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of experience in geriatric care.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Regular use of hearing and vision for communication and monitoring.
- Occasional lifting of heavier objects and patients.
Required Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Completion of Medication Aide Training in Wisconsin.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services or the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry.
