Position Overview: The Community Political Organizer will report to the Political Director, working closely with community coalitions to build support from local groups and leaders for the strategic initiatives and objectives of SEIU Local.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and engage potential allies among various community organizations and leaders.
  • Develop relationships with these allies, providing education on SEIU Local initiatives and securing their support.
  • Coordinate SEIU Local's participation in community events that align with our allies' goals.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of community organizations and key leaders.
  • Plan and implement community aspects of strategic initiatives.
  • Organize community events that bolster campaign efforts.
  • Attend meetings of allied community organizations to strengthen relationships and support union initiatives.
  • Monitor Local members' involvement in potential ally organizations.
  • Recruit and train Local members to effectively represent the union within community organizations.
  • Mobilize community organizations to participate in union events.
  • Establish necessary coalitions of key constituents for strategic advantage.
  • Engage in Local programs and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of full-time paid experience in community organizing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and perform under pressure.
- Strong strategic planning skills and accountability.
- Commitment to empowering workers.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese) are advantageous.
- Preferred: Established connections with community organizations in Local areas.

Additional Requirements: Must possess a valid California driver's license, pass a DMV check, maintain appropriate auto insurance, and have access to a vehicle for business purposes.
