About the Role

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Technician to join our team. As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to patients with behavioral health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one support to patients with behavioral health needs, as needed.
  • Closely monitor and maintain the safety of patients, observing behaviors and conditions in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
  • Conduct environmental checks and identify risk factors in conjunction with Registered Nurses.
  • Aid in the implementation of safety measures, such as physical restraints, observation levels, and suicide watches, as warranted.
  • Respond to and assist with de-escalating acute behavioral episodes in a therapeutic and supportive manner.
  • Prevent elopement and call for support/assistance when necessary to assist in preventing elopement.
  • Identify patient behaviors that could lead to behavioral escalation and utilize non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate situations.
  • Monitor patients and the environment with particular attention to safety concerns.
  • Perform vital signs and assist with Activities of Daily Living as directed by Registered Nurses.
  • Complete patient care documentation and administrative duties.
  • Assist practitioners performing medical procedures under the direction of Registered Nurses.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED, Associate's Degree preferred.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) within three months of hire.
  • Wellness De-escalation training within six months of hire.
  • Six months of practical experience in a behavioral health or educational setting preferred.
