Job Overview

Position Summary: The Gas Pipeline Technician plays a crucial role in the construction, upkeep, replacement, and repair of natural gas distribution systems. This position requires operational qualifications and hands-on experience with fusion tools and pipefitting techniques. The technician may also need to travel to various job sites based on client requirements, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Work Location: This position is based in a designated area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prioritize safety while executing new construction, maintenance, replacement, or repair tasks related to natural gas polyethylene piping.
  • Execute pipe fitting and connections for polyethylene pipe sizes primarily 2" and smaller.
  • Utilize various pipe joining methods including butt or socket fusion, electrofusion, and mechanical coupling.
  • Conduct inspections and tests on piping systems to identify leaks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the proper use and upkeep of fusion equipment and hand tools.
  • Regularly work around live gas systems and other utilities during excavation activities to locate utilities.
  • Exercise caution to protect utilities, lives, and property.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in optimal working condition.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging, setting up road signs, and operating pneumatic and engine-driven tools.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team, following instructions and guidance.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of materials utilized in natural gas infrastructure projects.
  • Achieve operator qualifications to perform necessary tasks as required.
  • Comprehend OSHA standards for competent persons, including:
    • Soil testing and classification
    • Sloping and shoring protocols
  • Recognize the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Work in trenches and bell holes.
  • Identify various materials used in natural gas infrastructure.
  • Adapt to outdoor work conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Perform additional related tasks as needed to fulfill job requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Limited field experience in natural gas.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and DOT medical certification.
  • A Commercial Driver's License is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice, as necessary.
  • Able to work extended hours in various locations, as required.
  • Capable of lifting over 50 lbs.
  • Open to working overtime when requested.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While executing job duties, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee frequently stands, walks, and uses hands/fingers to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms.

Work Environment:
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently exposed to dirt, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment, and vibrations. The employee may occasionally encounter extreme conditions at construction sites. The employee may be subject to various atmospheric conditions that could impact the respiratory system due to fumes, odors, mists, or gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud, and this position is performed outdoors.
