Internal Controls Specialist

Key ResponsibilitiesThe Internal Controls Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting the Internal Controls team. This position involves leading or participating in internal control audit initiatives and contributing to the formulation of the annual internal controls strategy.
Key duties include:
- Identifying and assessing financial reporting risk areas within the organization and contributing to the planning and scope of the annual internal controls audit;
- Executing internal control assessments, which encompass understanding and documenting client processes, identifying issues, conducting testing, and evaluating the effectiveness of key controls;
- Conducting interviews and walkthroughs, reviewing documentation and evidence, and preparing detailed working papers;
- Identifying, developing, and documenting internal control issues and recommendations, utilizing independent judgment;
- Collaborating with various business units to create remediation plans for control deficiencies and monitoring the progress of remediation activities;
- Partnering with external auditors to streamline the external audit process and address findings related to internal controls;
- Communicating the outcomes of internal control projects through comprehensive reports and presentations to management;
- Building and maintaining productive relationships through regular interactions and meetings;
- Pursuing professional development opportunities through industry associations and training programs;
- Performing additional tasks and projects as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting is required;
- CPA or CIA certification is preferred;
- A minimum of 2+ years of audit experience, particularly in SOX compliance and/or SOC 1 engagements, is strongly preferred;
- Ability to apply accounting principles, management practices, and preferred business methodologies;
- Proven ability to collect and analyze complex data, evaluate information and systems, and draw logical conclusions;
- Excellent analytical skills with the capacity to identify control deficiencies and assess associated risks in business processes;
- Experience in conducting IT audits and evaluating IT controls is highly desirable;
- Demonstrated success in planning and project management while maintaining composure under pressure;
- Strong negotiation and issue resolution skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, for report preparation and documentation.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams;
- Strong initiative and self-motivation, with a proven ability to work independently;
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in audit tasks;
- Maintains professional skepticism regarding internal processes and financial data;
- Exhibits good judgment and recognizes when to escalate issues;
- Transparent in communication, providing regular updates on progress and promptly notifying management of potential challenges;
- Flexible and team-oriented, demonstrating strong integrity and professionalism.
Base Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000
In addition to a competitive base salary, the successful candidate will be eligible for discretionary bonus incentives, a comprehensive benefits package, and flexible work arrangements. The offered salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, industry knowledge, and prior training.
