Department Overview

The Texas Tech University Libraries play a crucial role in supporting students and faculty in their academic pursuits. The library system includes several branches, providing access to millions of physical volumes, electronic resources, and special collections, aimed at enhancing academic and research achievements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the service desk; respond to incoming calls and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Assist patrons with the reservation of study rooms and issuance of library cards.
  • Act as a point of escalation for customer service inquiries, referring patrons to relevant librarians.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of Access Services procedures and documentation.
  • Complete necessary reports and submit work orders as required.
  • Provide additional training for student assistants and oversee their daily activities.
  • Maintain inventory of reserve items at the service desk.
  • Process transactions and maintain compliance with payment security standards.
  • Gather and record statistical data related to library transactions.
  • Manage lost and found items and perform security checks to ensure patron safety.
  • May be required to open and close the library as needed.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and one year of related experience are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential. Relevant specialized experience may be considered in lieu of formal education on a year-for-year basis.
