Food Safety and Sanitation Supervisor

We are currently seeking a Food Safety and Sanitation Supervisor to lead our efforts in ensuring compliance with our corporate Safe Quality Foods (SQF) plan. This role is essential for overseeing the Food Safety System (FSS) and sanitation operations at our designated Growing Center. The ideal candidate will provide strategic direction and daily support to our operations management team, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain the SQF Program at the assigned facility.
- Serve as the designated SQF Practitioner, ensuring compliance with relevant FSMA training.
- Maintain accurate documentation, records, and databases related to food safety and sanitation.
- Log and track non-compliances, conducting investigations and coordinating follow-ups to resolve issues.
- Develop and conduct training programs for staff on food safety and sanitation practices.
- Conduct regular audits of the internal Food Safety Program and prepare for third-party audits.
- Manage sanitation personnel, ensuring effective training and performance evaluations.
- Implement and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule to ensure a safe and quality product.
- Act as the emergency contact for food safety issues, ensuring timely resolution of any incidents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in food science, biology, chemistry, agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of five to seven years of experience in Food Safety or Quality Assurance, with knowledge of SQF Systems and FSMA.
- HACCP Certification is required.
- At least two years of supervisory experience is necessary.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred, depending on location.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven leadership and team motivation skills.
- Experience with traceability and recall exercises.
- Strong understanding of food safety and quality systems, including HACCP and ISO standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
- Technical proficiency in data management and computer skills.
Working Environment:
- Work in a greenhouse environment with temperatures that may exceed 100°F.
- Exposure to refrigerated warehouse conditions averaging 50°F.
- Physical requirements include lifting, standing, and climbing.
