JOB OVERVIEW

The Area Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing plant personnel, resources, and the attainment of operational and corporate objectives. This position involves providing leadership to the plant operations team and serving as the primary support to the Unit Manager. The Area Manager embodies the core values and principles of the organization, which significantly influence the culture of the operations team.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
EH&S and Reliability Leadership

Collaborates with the Unit Manager to implement a robust safety and environmental improvement strategy aimed at achieving EH&S objectives. Ensures compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), regulatory, and permit requirements.

Strives for optimal plant reliability to minimize unplanned incidents and enhance safe operations. Promotes and teaches behaviors that support dependable operations.

Advocates for Life Critical Standards within the facility, demonstrating commitment through personal conduct and field coaching.

Ensures thorough technical evaluation of work plans to guarantee appropriate application of Life Critical Standards.

Works alongside the Unit Manager to allocate capital effectively for the elimination of industrial hygiene risks, enhancement of environmental compliance, and reduction of safety hazards.

Maintains an active presence in the field to assess work activities and stay informed about plant requirements and personnel behaviors.


People and Organizational Effectiveness

Directly oversees Run Plant Engineers, Technical Advisors, and First Line Supervisors.

Assists the Unit Manager in motivating the team by providing context and clarity to communication, fostering an empowered workforce.

Inspires the organization through effective leadership and strong connections with team members, promoting an empowered environment.

Accountable for the continuous development of the expertise index for operators within the facility.

Collaborates with Human Resources to recruit individuals with strong competencies.

Facilitates career advancement through goal setting, performance evaluations, promotion processes, and employee development initiatives.

Addresses operational discipline issues and escalates as necessary.


Business Acumen and Continuous Improvement

Understands the business model and strategic direction of the facility.

Continuously seeks to enhance the overall cost of production, including raw materials and operational expenses.

Holds self and others accountable for the return on investment for projects.

Promotes and drives continuous improvement by engaging in opportunity analysis sessions and encouraging participation in plant enhancements.

Partners with the Quality team to support the resolution of significant customer issues.


QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or a related technical field).

5+ years of experience in plant manufacturing, technology, or maintenance is required.

Direct supervisory experience is essential.

Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and communication skills are necessary.

Data-driven, action-oriented, and possesses a sense of urgency.

Green Belt certification or higher is preferred.
