JOB SUMMARY

The Area Manager is entrusted with shared responsibility and accountability for plant personnel, resources, and the achievement of site-specific, business, and corporate objectives.

This role involves providing leadership to the plant operations team and serving as the primary support to the Unit Manager. The Area Manager exemplifies the core values and behaviors of the organization, recognizing that this shapes the culture of the operations team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
EH&S/Reliability Leadership

Collaborates with the Unit Manager to implement a robust personal safety, process safety, and environmental enhancement strategy to meet EH&S objectives.

Ensures compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), regulatory, and permit requirements.

Actively pursues optimal plant reliability to minimize unplanned events and support safe operations. Promotes and teaches behaviors that foster reliable operations.

Advocates for Life Critical Standards within the facility, demonstrating commitment through personal actions and field coaching.

Ensures thorough technical review of work plans (maintenance or improvement) to guarantee that Life Critical Standards are appropriately applied.

Works with the Unit Manager to allocate capital effectively for eliminating industrial hygiene hazards, enhancing environmental compliance, and mitigating personal/process safety risks.

Maintains an active presence in the field and routinely assesses work activities to stay informed about plant needs and personnel behaviors.

People/Organizational Effectiveness

Directly oversees Run Plant Engineers, Technical Advisors, and First Line Supervisors.

Assists the Unit Manager in motivating, explaining, and communicating the purpose of messages to the empowered organization.

Inspires and energizes the organization through effective leadership and a strong connection with the team, fostering an empowered environment.

Accountable for enhancing and maintaining the expertise index for operators within the facility.

Collaborates closely with Human Resources to recruit individuals with strong skill sets.

Facilitates organizational development and ensures career advancement through goal setting, performance management, promotion processes, and employee development plans.

Addresses operational discipline issues and escalates them to the appropriate channels as necessary.

Business Acumen/Financial Insight/Continuous Improvement

Understands the business model and strategic direction for the facility.

Continuously seeks to enhance the total cost of production (including raw materials, conversion costs, and activity rates).

Holds themselves and others accountable for the return on investment of projects.

Encourages and drives continuous improvement by actively participating in opportunity analysis sessions and plant enhancement initiatives.

Partners with the Quality organization to support the resolution of significant customer issues.


QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or a related technical field).

5+ years of experience in plant manufacturing, technology, or maintenance is required.

Direct supervisory experience is essential.

Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.

Data-driven, action-oriented, and operates with a sense of urgency.

Green Belt certification or higher is preferred.
