JOB DESCRIPTION

Project Overview:

The IT Project Management Office at Stratford Solutions Inc. focuses on the development of extensive, workflow-driven software applications aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of business teams. These applications cater to various functions, including planning, installation, repair, and inspection services. Additional projects may involve managing permits for public parking or facilitating smoother travel on urban highways. The appointed Senior IT Solutions Architect will collaborate with the IT PMO and guide development teams in executing projects akin to the aforementioned applications.

Stratford Solutions Inc. seeks a seasoned Consultant who will be responsible for:

  • Providing technical guidance for enterprise-level Open Source IT initiatives.
  • Leading a team of software developers in hands-on web application creation utilizing Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL.
  • Defining application architecture, assessing application stacks and integration alternatives, documenting business volume metrics, and constructing performance models.
  • Reviewing requirement specifications and business process documentation for proposed solution implementations.
  • Ensuring reusability and scalability as necessary.
  • Understanding existing application architecture/design and executing application development in accordance with design specifications and coding standards.
  • Grasping network design, security architecture, and performance limitations.
  • Conducting data modeling and logical/physical database design.
  • Developing and integrating responsive design-based web applications using full stack Ruby on Rails alongside other Open Source technologies such as Ruby, RVM, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, LeafletJS, jQuery, DataTables, Bootstrap, Polymer, and XML/JSON-based web services across various operating systems.
  • Designing, developing, and optimizing application databases using PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS-SQL, Memcached, and Redis.
  • Building and integrating with RESTful and JSON APIs.
  • Employing DevOps technologies such as Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, and DataDog.
  • Managing configuration, continuous integration, version control, unit/performance testing, and documentation with tools like AWS, Docker, Git/GitHub, RSpec, Cucumber, Travis, BlazeMeter, and Jira.
  • Understanding release management and maintaining GITFlow workflow.
  • Leading the transition to Azure DevOps workflow for application deployment.
  • Creating secure web applications with user authentication and role-based access control.
  • Developing/integrating Geographic Information System (GIS)-based services utilizing ESRI, Google, MapBox, and Open Source GIS solutions.
  • Incorporating geospatial data and APIs.
  • Participating in and contributing to formal/informal technical reviews and presentations.
  • Incorporating feedback from reporting managers effectively.
  • Estimating time requirements for development tasks accurately.
  • Collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Proactively establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members.
  • Refactoring code to address performance and security concerns.
  • Ensuring the technical quality of the implemented code base and comprehending the executed design.
  • Possessing knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Engaging in the software testing process, including identifying and resolving defects.

Minimum Requirements/Additional Provisions

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates lacking the mandatory skills will not be considered.

  • BA/BS Degree or equivalent in a technology-related field.
  • 10+ years of experience leading a team of software application developers.
  • 10+ years of experience in object-oriented design, development, testing, and deployment of mission-critical business applications in web/client-server environments.
  • 7+ years of hands-on development experience with projects involving the full stack Ruby on Rails 5.x and other Open-Source technologies.

Preferred Skills/Experience for Consultant Candidates:

  • Experience in building and integrating with RESTful and JSON APIs.
  • Experience with configuration management, continuous integration, version control, testing, and documentation management using Open-Source tools.
  • Flexibility and willingness to undertake a variety of challenging tasks.
  • Experience in all phases of SDLC and standard methodologies such as Waterfall, RUP, Agile/SCRUM.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership abilities.
  • Team-oriented with the capacity to build strong working relationships with peers and other teams.
  • Ability to comprehend business requirements and provide accurate delivery estimates.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
