General Overview

Act as a production technician and/or rigger to execute tasks essential for the provision of stagecraft services in comprehensive multi-purpose public venues. There are opportunities for training on specialized equipment and progression into skilled positions.

The specific role and compensation will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of each candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the assembly and disassembly of concerts, sporting events, and various other functions.
  • Construct and deconstruct truss systems, install lighting, audio arrays, manage cabling, and build scenic structures.
  • Service and repair stage apparatus, including theatrical lighting devices, sound systems, projection tools, winch mechanisms, and drapery.
  • Operate all necessary stage equipment to ensure the successful execution of entertainment events and maintenance tasks.
  • Design, install, focus, and manage theatrical lighting systems. Set up and operate sound reinforcement and communication equipment.
  • Maintain an inventory of consumable supplies (e.g., lamps, color filters, gaffer's tape).
  • Foster and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and other personnel.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
  • Consistently embody the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics. Always act ethically and seek guidance when uncertain about applicable laws, rules, or policies.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Advanced experience in carpentry, electronics, construction, or other manual labor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and follow directions.
  • Extensive knowledge of concert stage rigging for both high and ground riggers.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an apprenticeship is advantageous.
  • Stagehands: Certification in lift operations (fork, scissor, boom, etc.), skills in audio, lighting, video, and/or scenic carpentry, and experience as a live performance engineer/programmer.
  • Rigging: SPRAT/IRATA certification and rope access training, ETCP Certification.
  • Experience within Texas Intercollegiate Athletics.
Compensation

Starting pay for stagehands: $20 per hour, with potential increases based on qualifications, certifications, and experience level.

Working Conditions
  • Long and varied hours.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently, often under pressure of strict deadlines at all hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • High rigging work may occur at significant heights.
  • Physically demanding tasks, including prolonged periods of walking.
  • Stagehands and riggers must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds.
Work Shift
  • Work is offered on an as-needed and sporadic basis.
  • Opportunities may arise at any time of day or night, including weekends and holidays.
