Underwriting Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Underwriting Manager to join our team at the State Compensation Insurance Fund. As a key member of our underwriting function, you will play a critical role in achieving our budget plan objectives and ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory advisories, guidelines, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the underwriting function of a Regional Office to achieve budget plan objectives.
- Effectively manage and develop staff to ensure employee engagement is maintained.
- Interact with other regions, departments, and business segments to meet operational needs and enterprise objectives.
- Oversee the acquisition, development, and profitability of an assigned book of business.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, appraise, and discipline subordinate staff.
- Plan, organize, direct, and control the operations of the assigned Underwriting unit.
- Contribute to the Policy Operations and Regional Office management team.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with the broker community and monitor broker trends.
- Uphold principles of integrity in the workplace.
- Provide quality customer service in a timely manner.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Self-motivated and able to handle varied tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.

- Ability to interact with regional management and other programs to meet operational needs.
- Assess and monitor optimal performance, work-flow process, and workload balance.
- Ability to design, plan, and implement policies, procedures, and work-flow processes.
- Contribute to task force projects on corporate and industry-wide issues.
- Proficient knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of personnel management and supervision.
- Ability to influence others and negotiate agreements and consensus among project partners, work peers, and other related stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively implement service strategies that clearly define excellent customer experience, setting expectations for timeliness and quality.
- Ability to write professional and accurate reports and other communications suitable for distribution to internal and external customers.
Candidates must reside in California to be eligible for this appointment.
Business travel may occasionally be from overnight to five days in duration and may include, but not be limited to, plane, bus, van, taxi, or car. Travel to various work sites and locations for training and/or meetings may be necessary and work hours may vary.
