Associate Underwriting Manager, Middle Markets

Zurich is seeking a seasoned Underwriting Manager to lead our Middle Markets team in Southern California. As a key member of our production underwriting team, you will be responsible for managing a team of skilled Underwriters and a book of new and renewal business. This role requires a strong technical, staff development, and sales execution mindset, with a focus on driving an engaging team culture.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a team of Underwriters and a book of business, ensuring timely and accurate underwriting decisions
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents, brokers, and other stakeholders in the Southern California region
- Travel as necessary to support the needs of the team and cultivate key broker relationships
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and developments, and apply this knowledge to drive business growth and improvement
- 5+ years of experience in underwriting or a related field
- Strong technical underwriting skills and a deep understanding of property and casualty insurance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and external partners
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Advanced knowledge of property and casualty insurance, including lines of business and industry trends
- Experience in a leadership or management role, with a proven track record of success
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound decisions
