Associate Underwriting Manager, Middle Markets

Zurich is seeking a seasoned Underwriting Manager to lead our Middle Markets team in Southern California. As a key member of our production underwriting team, you will be responsible for managing a team of skilled Underwriters and a book of new and renewal business. This role requires a strong technical, staff development, and sales execution mindset, with a focus on driving an engaging team culture.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a team of Underwriters and a book of business, ensuring excellent customer service and technical underwriting skills.
- Travel as necessary to support the needs of the team and cultivate key broker relationships in the Southern California region.
- Develop and implement strategies to drive business growth and improve underwriting performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution of underwriting processes.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and regulatory changes, applying this knowledge to inform underwriting decisions.
- 5+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles, or 10+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support roles.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and strong technical underwriting skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build and manage a high-performing team.
- Advanced knowledge of line/s of business and insurance industry trends.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- Advanced knowledge of product lines and insurance industry trends.
- Strong presentation skills and a solutions-focused orientation.
- Results-oriented with a focus on driving business growth and improving underwriting performance.
