Position: Automation Controls Technician

Arclin, Inc. is in search of an Automation Controls Technician to enhance our operational capabilities.

The Automation Controls Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance of the facility's automation instruments, DeltaV distributed control system, and the industrial local area network. This includes routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, calibration, and necessary replacements.

This position also demands expertise in instrumentation, automation, and electrical systems to support manufacturing operations. The technician will maintain a comprehensive understanding of automation systems and relevant software/hardware utilized in production processes, assisting in the upkeep and advancement of general instrumentation and automated control systems for resin/formaldehyde production.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Install, program, and maintain all plant instrumentation and control systems (DeltaV), including daily preventative maintenance tasks.
2. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical instrumentation and control system issues.
3. Coordinate and execute calibrations for all instruments according to established schedules, maintaining accurate records.
4. Ensure alignment of plant automation control systems with quality control systems to guarantee data integrity.

5. Serve as the primary auditor for all electrical controls contractor work and initiate site Management of Change (MOC) for relevant activities.

6. Generate and maintain documentation related to control systems, including ladder logic and wiring diagrams.
7. Review and update P&IDs, loop sheets, and electrical schematics.
8. Provide additional support for general plant equipment, including Variable Frequency Drives, PLCs, and other electronic devices.
9. Complete tasks assigned by the Plant Engineer or designated personnel.

10. Advise the Plant Engineer, Production Department supervisors, and Corporate Automation Engineering on necessary instrumentation and PLC upgrades, collaborating to schedule these activities.

11. Assist in preparing engineering analyses for projects, including preliminary and detailed designs, project cost assessments, and life cycle cost evaluations related to process controls instrumentation.

12. Plan and manage improvement projects related to electrical controls with budgets under $10,000.
13. Maintain a knowledge base of automation control systems in both batch and continuous processes.
14. Participate in MOCs, HAZOPs, PHAs, JHAs, and functional description reviews.
15. Engage actively in Plant Safety Culture initiatives, including the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
16. Be available for on-call support during production issues caused by electrical or controls failures (including remote and off-hours support).

Qualifications:
1. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree focusing on electrical or controls systems is preferred; however, candidates with practical experience may also be considered.

2. Certifications such as CCST, Red Seal, or ICET are advantageous; completion of Arc Flash training will be required upon hiring if not already obtained.

3. Proficiency in Distributive Process Controls Systems (DeltaV) is essential; knowledge of Programmable Logic Control, HMI, and automation control systems is a plus.
4. Familiarity with AB RS Logix 5000, Control Logix, Powerflex drives, and HMI/SCADA systems is beneficial.
5. Understanding of process simulation software is desirable.
6. A minimum of 5 years of experience with industrial electrical systems, including switchgear and motor control systems, is required.

7. Experience in installing, calibrating, configuring, and troubleshooting process instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level, and flow) from manufacturers such as Rosemount, Micromotion, and/or Endress & Hauser is preferred.

8. Knowledge of PCs, LANs, and computer hardware/software installation and support is necessary.
9. Understanding of DC and AC drive systems is important.
10. Familiarity with quality control and ISO 9000 management systems is beneficial.
11. Strong technical problem-solving skills are essential.
12. Ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to established timelines is crucial.
13. Effective communication skills with all levels of plant staff and corporate engineering functions are required.
14. Capability to perform fieldwork, including wiring, component installation, and instrument calibrations; ability to work in confined spaces and at heights while adhering to safety protocols; some lifting may be required.
