Position Overview:
The Anesthesia Medication Specialist at Holland Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting the anesthesia team through the effective management and administration of anesthesia-related pharmaceuticals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the anesthesia team in the preparation and management of anesthetic agents and supplies.
  • Work under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist or physician to perform various technical and administrative tasks that facilitate the delivery of anesthesia services.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and hospital policies while maintaining high standards of quality in all operations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess a valid Pharmacy Technician license or be a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA).
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a pharmacy technician or anesthesia-related role within a healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with anesthesia equipment and procedures is essential.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for collaboration within a team.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling anesthesia equipment and medications.

Medication Management:
Utilize your pharmacy technician expertise to oversee the storage, handling, and documentation of anesthetic medications. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and labeling medications for anesthesia in accordance with physician directives.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and assisting in the procurement of pharmaceuticals.
  • Ensuring adherence to hospital policies and regulatory standards in pharmacy operations.

Daily Operations:
Maintain the functionality of the Automated Distribution System (Pyxis) by:

  • Conducting routine checks, refilling, and addressing discrepancies.
  • Preparing and distributing medications in a timely manner.
  • Providing support and education to nursing staff regarding the system.

IV Admixture and Equipment Maintenance:
Demonstrate proficiency in IV admixture procedures, ensuring:

  • Accurate preparation of sterile compounds following departmental guidelines.
  • Maintenance of the IV preparation area, ensuring cleanliness and compliance with protocols.
  • Routine checks and maintenance of anesthesia equipment to ensure operational readiness.
