Role Overview:
This position plays a crucial role in the development and operation of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for routine missions carrying both crew and cargo to various orbits, including low-Earth orbit and beyond. The first stage of this vehicle is fully reusable, emphasizing our commitment to human-capable space exploration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to design, analyze, and qualify next-generation valves for the New Glenn rocket.
- Contribute to all aspects of mechanical design, including requirements definition, layout creation, component selection, modeling, drafting, manufacturing, and testing.
- Utilize your technical expertise and leadership skills to enhance the safety and reliability of human spaceflight.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in aerospace valve design and experience with 3D CAD software (preferably Creo).
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools, particularly ANSYS, for analyzing pressurized systems.
- Strong skills in creating engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Solid understanding of fluid components, including valves and pressurized hardware.
- Ability to foster trust and maintain professional relationships within a diverse team.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- Experience designing systems utilizing Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Methane in various states.
- Background in system layout or component design for launch vehicles or cryogenic systems.
- Familiarity with thermo-fluid solver applications such as Thermal Desktop and AFT.
- Proven knowledge of material properties and aerospace materials.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies and pressurized systems.
- Experience in integrating routed fluid systems in both ground and flight applications.
- Expertise in engineering analysis related to Non-Conformance (NC) issues for fluid components and assemblies.
