Job Title: Fluid Systems Design Engineer II: Upper Stage

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Fluid Systems Design Engineer II: Upper Stage, you'll play a critical role in designing and developing the fluid systems for our upper stage rockets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and route complex fluid subsystems, including pressurization, pneumatics, and propellant utilization
  • Develop a strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to ensure safe and efficient system operation
  • Work with fluid components, such as solenoid valves, pneumatic valves, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation
  • Author component specifications and manage suppliers through design, development, qualification, and delivery of flight hardware
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless system integration and resolve issues with calculated risk
  • Lead and participate in component and system-level testing and data analysis
  • Utilize 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS preferred) to design and optimize fluid systems
  • Deliver completed designs using best practices and clear, well-documented analysis reports
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 3+ years of professional engineering experience with complex fluid systems
  • Demonstrated experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle fluid system component design or test
  • Experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles in the detail design of aerospace or equivalent type fluid systems and components
  • Solid understanding of fluid components, fabrication, integration processes, and quality control relative to tubes/piping and machined components
  • Working knowledge of materials and treatments
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with hydrazine and/or cryogenic systems
  • Working knowledge of cryogenic material properties and testing
  • Experience with data acquisition systems
  • Experience with the application and use of welding
